Make Your Website Carbon Neutral

Make Your Website Carbon Neutral

Quite ironic, here we are, blogging for a better environment and future and it turns out that we are actually part of the problem that we’re trying to solve. A Harvard University shows that the average website is responsible for 0.02 grams of carbon dioxide emissions for every visitor. They then calculated that a blog with 15,000 visitors each month produces 8 pounds of emissions each year. Ouch..

But of course, for every problem there is a solution. Make it Green!, a German organization that is working with the Arbor Day Foundation, can help you make your website or blog carbon neutral in a matter of minutes. All you have to do is write a blog post about their initiative, contact Make it Green! by sending them an email and put this button somewhere on your website. Make it Green! will then plant a tree on your behalve to compensate for your carbon footprint.

To date, Make It Green! has helped the Arbor Day Foundation plant about 350 trees in Plumas National Forest, a 1-million-acre forest in northern California that was devastated by forest fires in 2007 (88,000 acres of the forest was destroyed). The 350 trees is a good start, but let’s spread the word some more. Contributing made easy!

Note to Treehugger: you guys might have to plant some extra trees :)
